John Potter, 42, grew up in central Columbia Missouri. He attended Columbia Public Schools and Hickman High School and obtained his GED in 2001.
John is married to Megan Potter and they have three daughters attending CPS. John has worked in a wide-array of industries, from janitorial, to food service and internet sales. He started his current career, in the construction industry, in 2002.
It was during the 2020 prolonged shutdowns, when John first became aware of exactly how much the CPS Administration and Board decisions personally affect his family. John banded together with community members to protest, petition and helped form a local Parents' Advocacy Group, to get students in-seat, full-time and to pursue accountability and transparency at CPS.
John contributed many public comments, on multiple topics, including the re-opening of schools and in-person learning, eliminating mandatory masking, making parents aware of divisive incidents and internal training. He has attended almost all CPS Board meetings, since September 14, 2020.
John's public comments at board meetings may be found on the district website. See much more from John on the Parents' Advocacy Group, CoMo Citizens for CPS Accountability & Transparency.

SEPTEMBER 14, 2020
Regarding Rock Bridge High School racial water fountain incident and CPS' lack of communication and lack of transparency.
All donations appreciated. Thanks.
Columbia Public Schools Administrators and School Board Members make all their decisions under the guise of “Equity”. Some people call it wokeness, wokeism, Identity-based Marxism, CRT, DEI, etc. We understand these terms mean different things, to different people.
In our experience and research advocating for guardians and students, over the past two and a half years, on a wide-range of issues with Columbia Public Schools, we began to call it "Equitablism".
